2010 Season
The club is pleased to announce that Mike Furey has been appointed Colts coach for the 2010 season with Greg Broughtwood as Manager. Mike was coaching the premier team in 2009 and was successful coach who steered the Mount Maunganui Rugby Colts to success in the 2008 Baywide Colts Championship culminating in a win in the final.
Mike has a long association with the Mount Maunganui Rugby Club and has enjoyed great success.
He was coach of the Mount Maunganui Colts from 1993 to 1996 culminating in winning of the championship in the 1996 season. He was assistant coach for the Mount Maunganui Senior Reserve team that was runner up in the championship in 1998 and was Co-Coach of the Mount Senior A team in 2005 and Head Coach of this team in 2006 and 2007 when the team won the Western Bay Championships and Baywide Championships in each of these years and was unbeaten for three seasons.
Mike has held numerous other coaching positions and coached the Eastern Suburb Colts Team in the Sydney competition during 2001 winning NSW/Sydney Club competition.
He is also a registered referee and has had a rich playing history representing every Waikato Age Group Rep team from under 13s through to Waikato Colts which culminated in a Junior All Black trial and representing Waikato B during his playing days.
The Club wishes Mike well and looks forward to an exciting 2010 season.
